Holy is Thy Name

Track 2 on In His Presence, 2026

The story

This song was born in The Narrows of Zion National Park, the slot canyon where the Virgin River has carved through million-year-old stone. I'd been hiking for hours against the current when I stopped, pressed my hand against the canyon wall, and felt the texture of something I couldn't name.

Standing there, surrounded by what that river had patiently carved over millions of years, I had a spiritual impression that stopped me cold: this is only the beginning of God's patience for the children of men.

I nearly wept. Millions of years of water shaping stone, and that was only the beginning of His patience with us?

In that moment, the name Patient began to move from a word I could define to an attribute I was being invited to receive through lived experience. That same afternoon became the heart of my book, Receiving His Name.

This song is my reverent response to that encounter: a song of worship on God's holy name, and on the quiet, steady way He shapes hearts over eternities rather than moments.

The song tries to hold that moment. The arrangement mirrors what I felt in the canyon: the water moving through, the echo off the walls, the unhurried sense that something ancient and holy is very near.

Lyrics

Verse 1

I stood beneath the canyon wall,
Where patient waters softly fall.
A million years in shaping stone,
A borrowed breath, not mine alone.

I asked the stillness, “What is this?”
Across the narrow, deep abyss,
The Spirit whispered, soft and true:
“Behold the patience I have for you.”

Chorus

Holy is the Name I bear!
A sacred weight, a whispered prayer.
For every name He gives to me,
He paid the price on Calvary.

A treasure bought in love and grace,
And borne until I see His face.

Verse 2

For every name He calls me by,
A price was paid in days gone by.
In garden dark and morning dew,
He bore the weight of each one too.

I hold them close, I keep them still,
Surrendered to His holy will.
Each name He gives, through patient years,
Has softened edges carved by tears.

Chorus

Holy is the Name I bear!
A sacred weight, a whispered prayer.
For every name He gives to me,
He paid the price on Calvary.

A treasure shaped by love and grace,
And carried till I see His face.

Verse 3

A disciple learning how to bear
The holy names He lets me wear.
Each name a fire refining still,
A quiet bending of my will.

The world demands a sudden change,
But God grows truth through sun and rain.

Final Chorus

Holy is the Name I bear!
A sacred weight, a whispered prayer.
For every name He gives to me,
Had its birth in Gethsemane.

A treasure grown in love and grace,
Awakened when I see His face!

Bridge

Before the veil, I speak the Word-
More sacred than I’ve ever heard.
The names He gave now rise in me,
Fulfilled at last in what I see.

Outro

The whispered names through all my days
Now gather into endless praise.
Holy is Thy Name...Holy is Thy Name.
